So not sure if any one has heard about this but apparently CPR has recieved permits to put a large scale rock crushing facility on its right of way lands, next to that big abandoned wherehouse with all the broken windows, right close to down town. This would be a major facility which would drastically change the face of nelson with the constant noise of machinery and clouds of dust coating baker st. Apparently this land is already zoned industrial and CPR has a lot powers that normal corporation's do not. From what I hear city council is opposed but powerless to stop this development. I would recommend that anyone who cares about preserving Nelson should try to dig up as much info as they can on this. It makes the kootani landing development and the proposed development at red sand pretty insignificant, and perhaps evan just smoke screens to divert peoples attention from the real threat facing our community.

That building was once the Nelson Diesel Shop. Look up "Nelson Diesel Shop" on Flickr. This could be a very possible alternative. Add me if you like to reply.

Re: Proposed Rock Crushing Facilty next to Down Town Nelson
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 2:18 PMThere was a bunch of press on this in Nelson. Including the fact that its on CPR property and there is next to nothing the city of Nelson can do about it.
The crushed rock is for use in the oilsands of alberta in the process of removing the oil from the bitrate as I understand it. -

Re: Proposed Rock Crushing Facilty next to Down Town Nelson
Sat, July 26, 2008 - 7:48 PMI for one think Nelson could benefit from a little more industry. Really there isn't much other than the service trade, which doesn't pay the bills unless you work three jobs. Whats using that space now? It's a abandoned, asbestos filled complex sitting on contaminated soil. Anything would be better. Don't misunderstand me, it's actually one of my favorite buildings in town, but it really does us no good. I don't think this rock crushing facility is going to cover Nelsons streets with dust and we wont need earplugs to walk downtown. It's just more jobs.
Anyway that's my 2 cents. Yeah this is my first post, but it wont be my last . Hi Nelson.
